Letter to the editor:

Getting at the truth matters

Special counsel Robert Mueller must be allowed to complete the Russia investigation and submit his report to the nation. There is enough smoke to warrant an investigation.

First: the meeting in Don Jr.’s office between representatives of the Russian government and the senior staff of Trump’s campaign for the purpose of collecting dirt on Hillary Clinton. This demonstrates the campaign’s willingness to conspire with the Russians.

Second: Donald Trump’s lie. He claimed the meeting was about Russian adoptions. The lie was quickly exposed by copies of his son’s e-mails. If the meeting was innocent, why lie about its purpose?

Then, after Trump told NBC’s Lester Holt and a Russian delegation in the Oval Office that the reason for firing James Comey was the Russian investigation. Sounds like potential obstruction of justice.

Shortly thereafter, Trump started attacking the FBI and the Mueller team, which leads me to conclude that Trump knows there is evidence out there that is incontrovertible and that the Mueller report will have incredibly damning revelations.

My friends believe the Mueller team is biased. I have to remind them that Mueller and Rod Rosenstein are long-time Republicans. I posed the question to my friends: “If Trump did collude with the Russians or obstructed justice, wouldn’t you want to know?”

Their silence was deafening. God help the USA.
