Letter to the editor:

Nation is turned upside down

As I go through my days going to work, shopping, out to diner or simply watching the news, I find that a lot of things I could rely on to always be there are not there anymore. Case in point: the proud display of our nation’s flag. I was always assured that while our flag flew atop a flag pole, things would be OK. The site of it at the top kept me focused on who we are and what we stand for. But the normal thing has changed.

I certainly understood that from time to time, we would honor someone by lowering the flag to half staff. Over the past year, I have notice that the normal is not to see the flag at the top of the pole but at half staff, honoring or commemorating a tragedy. It appears that this has become the norm.

Maybe we should just acknowledge that our country is in distress and turn the flag upside down. The best place to start this would be over the White House.
