Letter to the editor:

Russia installed American troika

The Soviet Union had its troika. Leonid Brezhnev, Alexei Kosygin and Nikolai Podgorny emerged after Nikita Khrushchev was ousted. While there was no doubt that Brezhnev was the front man, it was autocratic rule in a pack.

Russia undeniably helped President Donald Trump gain his office with numerous active and passive measures. At the same time, Russians busied themselves purchasing the Republican Party by funding the National Rifle Association and the campaigns of numerous Senate candidates with Russian oligarch monies. In that effort, they picked up Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. Meanwhile, one of the largest Russian banks, Alfa bank, employed an American legal representative in the person of Attorney General William Barr.

Last month, Trump introduced us to his form of dictatorship, and we have heard barely a whimper from those charged with representing us. McConnell has shown he is no longer a legislator. Instead, he is a traffic cop for Trump’s interests in Congress. Barr is Trump’s lawyer, a disgrace to his title and office. Trump has now set him free to pursue all of the president’s named “enemies” by giving him the power to declassify intelligence information so he can cherry-pick tidbits to us that fit the Trump’s script.

Trump, McConnell and Barr are the U.S. troika made possible by Russian intervention. While there is no doubt that Trump is the front man, this is the autocratic rule in a pack.
