LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Cherish state’s public lands

As a teen living in the state with more public lands than any other state besides Alaska, I feel lucky to live in Nevada, with all of its wide open, beautiful public lands.

Yet, whenever I tell friends from out of state that they should come to visit, I get responses like, “You should come visit me! There really isn’t much to do in Nevada, unless you’re 21.” This is one of the reasons we need an office of outdoor recreation: to promote eco-tourism and let folks know how much Nevada has to offer, other than casinos.

When my family moved to Nevada, we didn’t know that there were so many wonderful outdoor adventures to be had, but in the past couple of years, I have grown so fond of going to hike at places like Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire and other great hiking spots.

An Office of Outdoor Recreation will also bring in revenue for the state, create jobs and ensure that we protect public lands and keep them clean, maintained and beautiful.
