Letter to the editor:

Use this time of isolation wisely

In church this weekend, via conference call, the pastor’s sermon reminded me that there is always a different way to look at a situation.

We’ve become a society who’s been “social distancing” for years, we just didn’t realize it. All too often we communicate through an email, text messages or social media platforms, while face-to-face contact has become more of a nuisance to a lot of us.

Now that we all have extra time on our hands, instead of sitting at home sulking, we should renew old friendships and talk to our family members. Try calling them and having a conversation, or if they live with you, talk to them while having a meal.

Also, take this time to not only pray but also to be silent; you can’t hear God if you’re constantly doing all the talking.

Take this time to reset your life by prioritizing what’s important. And whether or not you believe in God, this is a chance to make the most of a bad situation — don’t blow it. Things seem bleak now but it won’t last forever. The question is: How will you respond, by following God’s words or falling back in with old habits?
