LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Green power not Texas’ problem

I wonder where the writer of the Feb. 21 letter “Green energy didn’t help Texas” gets his information.

He made a blanket statement that “all of the solar and energy sources were totally shut down.” This is false. Perhaps he should look to Texas’ regulatory energy commission for the facts.

The commission confirmed that wind turbines actually performed at higher-than-normal expectations, despite a 13% failure to operate during the freeze.

The commission also confirmed that the largest percentage of grid failure came from coal, nuclear and gas facilities. Perhaps the cloud cover reduced production of solar energy, but there was no mention of solar shutdown. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott making up “alternative facts” doesn’t make them any more true than it did for Donald Trump.
