LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Trophy killing has no place here

The killing of Cecil the lion, in 2015, outraged the world. Recently, in another senseless slaughter reminiscent of that one, Mopane, another magnificent African lion, was killed for a part of his body to hang on someone’s wall.

When animals are killed abroad, it is legal to ship their “trophies” back to the United States. We are a country of people who care about animals and can now use our voice to ban this senseless cruelty. Please urge your Congress member to support the reintroduction of the Protect Act, which would ban the import of trophies of endangered and threatened animals. Many ethical hunters stand with us on this issue.

This legislation would take a huge step in the right direction. Together, we can speak up for these slaughtered sacrificial lambs, so they didn’t die in vain.
