Darren Waller, Hunter Renfrow officially returning for Raiders against Patriots

Raiders vs Texans

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow (13) catches a pass during warm ups prior to an NFL football game against the Houston Texans at Allegiant Stadium Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022.

Tight end Darren Waller and slot receiver Hunter Renfrow will both play for the Raiders tomorrow against the New England Patriots at Allegiant Stadium.

It was widely assumed that the pair of former Pro Bowlers would return from a five-week stint on injured reserve for the Week 15 game, but Josh McDaniels had turned down opportunities to confirm it over the last few days. The Raiders’ coach said he wanted to put Waller (hamstring) and Renfrow (oblique) through a full week of practice to see how their bodies responded.

The trial must have gone well enough. Waller and Renfrow actually returned to practice two weeks ago but the Raiders only held walkthroughs with short preparation time going into Thursday Night Football.

It ended up looking Las Vegas could have used the pair on TNF considering the Raiders fell apart late and lost 17-16 to the Rams. The defeat dropped the Raiders’ record to 5-8 and made a playoff berth look like a longshot but the players have spoken ever since about giving it their best shot regardless.

The pair of high-profile comebacks can only help that cause.

Waller has missed eight games, and the vast majority of a ninth, with only 16 receptions for 175 yards and a touchdown on the year. Renfrow has missed seven games and has 21 catches for 192 yards on the season.
