LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Letter: Just let tigers live in peace

The Jan. 12 letter “Tiger show has economic benefit" fails to take into account the burden this venue would impose upon first responders and law enforcement if something went wrong — as it has with so many other similar enterprises where humans have been injured, lost limbs or their lives. Ultimately, the animal also loses its life when it gets put down.

Jay Owenhouse is barely a Las Vegas resident and is already attempting to bend newly passed laws governing exotic animal ownership; what kind of precedent does this set? He is also trying to go around the temporary use rules for an intended semi-permanent use.

Las Vegas does not need an opportunity like this if it involves housing apex predators near schools and neighborhoods. If Owenhouse is as good a performer as he claims and he only plans on using the tigers for a few minutes per show, he doesn’t really need to include them at all to be successful. And if he cares about them as much as he states, he should let them live out their lives in a real sanctuary, where they won’t be used for profit.
