UNLV football Week 1 matchup rescheduled for TV

UNLV Football Spring Showcase

The UNLV football schedule received a rather significant tweak on Thursday, as the season opener against Idaho State has been moved up a full week to Aug. 27.

The Scarlet and Gray had been set to kick off the 2022 campaign on Sept. 3 against the Bengals at Allegiant Stadium, but CBS Sports Network selected that game for a nationally televised slot in “Week Zero.”

The change now gives UNLV a second bye week. They’ll have two full weeks between the opener and their second contest, a Sept. 10 date at Cal, and they’ll have a full bye between road games at Notre Dame (Oct. 22) and at San Diego State (Nov. 5).

The 12:30 p.m. start time for the Idaho State game will force a quick turnaround at Allegiant Stadium, as the Las Vegas Raiders are set to host the New England Patriots in a primetime preseason game inside the dome the night before; that contest is set to kick off at 5:15 p.m.

UNLV will head into the opener under a lot of pressure to secure a win against FCS school Idaho State. Last year, the team dropped its Week 1 matchup with Eastern Washington, setting the tone for a disappointing 2-10 season.

In addition to the opener, CBS Sports Network will televise six other UNLV games in 2022. That process required three other games to be moved up one day from Saturdays to Fridays: vs. New Mexico (Sept. 30), at San Jose State (Oct. 7) and vs. Fresno State (Nov. 11).
