Republicans could be the saviors of our democracy.
True, Democrats say the fate of that democracy lies on the ballot in these midterm elections. But Democrats alone might not be able to pull off the victory they need, despite the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade possibly giving birth to a political Rosemary’s baby that will bedevil the GOP for years.
Still, more is needed now, such as millions of well-placed votes from disgruntled Republicans who never signed up for the big lie, the Capitol riot and attempted coup, and now the embarrassment of having election deniers on their side of the ballot. Their votes might just be enough to let Democrats and democracy prevail.
Will Republicans deliver those vengeful votes? It could happen. Just don’t bet your Social Security and Medicare coverage on it.
