LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Trump invited high gas prices

Kudos to Brian Greenspun for telling it like it is in his Nov. 2 column, “Don’t get confused over which president to punish,” as it relates to inflation, gas prices and how former President Donald Trump and his son-in-law Jared Kushner were responsible for driving up those prices.

Kushner admits in his book, “Breaking History, A White House Memoir,” that because Vladimir Putin didn’t like Saudi Arabia increasing oil production, which drove down its price, Trump told Kushner to call the Saudis and Russia to make a deal that would drive prices up.

Trump and Kushner’s cozy relationships with Russia and Saudi Arabia lend further credence to Kushner’s admission.

Conversely, President Joe Biden has been doing everything possible to reduce gas prices, including ordering the release of oil held in reserve and proposing a windfall oil tax on companies profiteering from the economic pain suffered by 99% of Americans.

We know why Republican candidates pounded the issue of inflation — because the person they support and embrace, Trump, caused the same for purely political reasons, which is antithetical to democracy.
