A public visitation and funeral will be conducted next week for an officer fatally shot while responding to a domestic disturbance, Metro Police said.

The visitation for Officer Truong Thai will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 27 at King David Memorial Chapel, 2697 Eldorado Lane in Las Vegas.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 28 at Central Church, 1001 New Beginnings Drive in Henderson.

Thai, 49, was shot about 1 a.m. Thursday in the 800 block of East Flamingo Road, near the UNLV campus, police said.

Thai and another officer encountered an armed man in a vehicle near Flamingo and University Center Drive, police said. The man opened fire and the officers fired back, police said.

Thai and a woman, later identified as the mother of the suspect’s girlfriend, were wounded, police said.

Thai died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, while the woman’s wound was not life threatening, police said.

A suspect, Tyson Hampton, 24, appeared in court Friday before a hearing master who found probable cause to keep him jailed without bail pending arraignment Tuesday on eight felony counts, including murder and attempted murder. He also faces a misdemeanor domestic battery count.

Thai’s family asked that any donations be made only to the Injured Police Officers Fund.
