Those who listened to the House Select Committee Investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol’s hearing Oct. 13 heard that former President Donald Trump actually tried to get all U.S. troops out of both Somalia and Afghanistan within a 24-hour period at the end of December 2020.
Fortunately, our military did not take that action, because Trump did not do it formally with a written order.
With all Republicans’ criticism of President Joe Biden over the withdrawal from Afghanistan a number of months later, tell me what a 24-hour withdrawal would have meant for getting out any Afghan supporters. What would we have gotten — a few dozen?
I realize this point does not really mean anything to Republicans, but at least the truth does matter, and is now recorded history.
