Former President Donald Trump staged a rally in Waco, Texas on the 30th anniversary of the Branch Davidian conflagration. He declared that the 2024 election would be the “final battle” for our country. He doubled down on his attacks on law enforcement.
Trump’s relentless attacks on the foundation of our democracy, the judicial system, are putting our country in a stress test. The only successful result would be for Trump to be held accountable for his actions.
He has predicted “death and destruction” would follow any indictment of him. He posted a picture of himself on social media with a baseball bat aimed at the head of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
He calls himself a victim of a politically motivated prosecution, but instead of making his case in a courtroom, he wants to incite a mob. He isn’t “fighting for you.” What did he do for those locked up after Jan. 6?
Trump is neither trying to make America great nor promoting a better future. He wants retribution for himself.
Republicans lost the popular vote in the past four elections and their donor class wants to back a winner. It would behoove the GOP to nominate a candidate who could win on the merits, not the hoopla of political “Wrestlemania.”
