Donald Trump, a master of deflection and projection, is under indictment for his role in hatching the scheme to alter the results of the 2020 election. He had a right to litigate his claims of voter fraud, but he had no proof and he was rebuffed in 60 court cases.
He would like us to believe that he thought he had won the election. He extensively promoted the “Big Lie” about his own win, knowing that he hadn’t won.
Special counsel Jack Smith has compiled a number of charges which are backed up by a list of overwhelming facts. One charge deals with ‘Deprivation of Rights”, which correlates to the disenfranchisement of some Biden voters in a few swing states. It begs the question of who was actually stealing the election.
Trump was instrumental in riling up the crowdon Jan.6, 2021, and encouraging them to go fight and disrupt the certification of electoral votes led by Vice President Mike Pence.
When the mob heard that Pence had not followed the plan, they shouted, “Hang Mike Pence.” It was also reported in the indictment that, while Trump was watching the melee on TV, he said, “This is what happens when the election is stolen. These people are really mad.” I remember his exhortation on Twitter, “ Be there on Jan. 6th, will be wild.”
We face a choice of voting for democracy and the rule of law or fascism and anarchy. We can’t listen to what Trump has said, but we must look at what he has done. He fooled us once in 2016, shame on him.
If he fools us twice in 2024, shame on us.
