Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., recently hounded one university president out of office and then bragged, “One down, two to go.”
Stefanik required that three university presidents answer a complicated constitutional question with a simple yes-or-no answer that could not possibly cover the many nuanced legal situations involved.
This reminds one of what happened in Russia a hundred years ago.
Vladimir Lenin sent top-flight academics off to work at forced labor in Siberia because their politics were too neutral and did not line up perfectly with the communist party line.
Today’s far-right Republican operating method lines up well with Lenin’s far-left operating method: “We are in power now and we will destroy whoever does not agree with us on everything we capriciously announce.”
Stefanik has demonstrated she will do anything to get the attention and favor of her party boss, Donald Trump, and in the process try to make herself the queen of the MAGA moral universe.
