The Republican Party is the party of lies and deceit. From Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., to former President Donald Trump, its political strategy for winning is to lie to the American people in order to get elected and hold on to power.
Republicans keep repeating the propaganda of the “Russia hoax.” The only hoax is the one Trump and his attorney general, William Barr, pulled on voters when they lied and said there was no cooperation between Russia and the Trump campaign team in 2016.
Trump’s campaign manager Paul Manafort conspired with the Russian intelligence officer Konstantin Kilimnik when he traded internal Trump campaign data to gain favor with the Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska. That polling data that was then used by the Russian GRU to focus its online propaganda where it would most help Trump win. That fact is not in dispute.
Vladimir Putin wants voters to think that what the Russians did to help Trump win the 2016 election was a hoax. That lie prepared Trump supporters to accept the big lie that Trump won the 2020 election that he actually lost by millions of votes. That big lie resulted in a violent insurrection.
Little lies and big lies only differ in the amount of damage they cause.
