Anderson Hunt, UNLV basketball guard from 1989 to 1991, speaks during the UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Thomas & Mack Center Saturday, May 21, 2022.

UNLV basketball will honor one of the greatest players in program history this year, as Anderson Hunt’s jersey will be retired in a ceremony at the Thomas & Mack Center on Nov. 11.

Hunt played three seasons for the Scarlet and Gray, made two Final Fours and was named Most Outstanding Player when UNLV won the national championship in 1990.

A Detroit native, Hunt averaged 15.0 points per game during his career at UNLV and was known for his marksmanship behind the 3-point line, knocking down 38.3% from long range. He scored a game-high 29 points in the title-clinching victory over Duke.

Hunt was inducted into the UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame last year, and now will join 11 other program legends in having his jersey retired. The other players whose jerseys hang from the rafters are Ricky Sobers, Robert Smith, Eddie Owens, Glen Gondrezick, Reggie Theus, Sidney Green, Armon Gilliam, Freddie Banks, Greg Anthony, Stacey Augmon and Larry Johnson. Smith’s was the most recent number to be retired, coming last year during a halftime ceremony.

UNLV is set to play Stetson on Nov. 11.
