Reading about any officer being stabbed or shot is horrifying but when it’s a canine and it didn’t need to happen, it is maddening.
There is a tool that all departments should have, called the BolaWrap. The device can be fired like a Taser, but it shoots a 16- to 24-foot rope that quickly “wraps” a suspect. This prevents them from using their hands or arms (if fired stomach-high) or running (if fired at their legs).
This is an effective, pain-free tool, and if Metro had it, the suspect who stabbed K9 Officer Enzo on March 31 would have been unable to raise his arm to stab the dog or an officer. If only Metro would take a look at this option.
