Letter to the Editor:

GOP sabotaging national security

FBI Director Christopher Wray warned a congressional committee about a growing danger of terrorist attacks on U.S. soil similar to the recent attack in Moscow that killed or injured over 150 people at a concert hall.

Wray advised that over 4,000 international terrorism investigations were open at the end of 2023.

In seeking funding for additional resources to combat this threat, Wray faces pushback from Republicans. These toadies are following the mantra of their leader, who has proclaimed that the FBI has unfairly attacked him. Of course, any attack on Donald Trump is deemed to be unfair by him.

Trump has called on Congress to slash the agency’s funding, and he has referred to the Justice Department and its FBI component as “vicious monsters.”

Echoing his leader’s words, Rep. Mike Garcia, R-Calif., told Wray at the hearing, “I’ll be honest with you, and this pains me to say this, but I don’t trust you.”

We can never be 100% guaranteed that there will not be an act of international terrorism committed on U.S. soil, but the risk either increases or decreases in proportion to the degree of vigilance and preparation used in the monitoring and prevention of such action.

But it is guaranteed that if an act of international terrorism is committed in this country before November, congressional Republicans, who kept the FBI understaffed and underfunded, will heap blame on the bureau for failing to detect the threat.
