LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Elected officials failing America

At least 35-40% of Americans are strong believers in political fantasies and wild, false conspiracy theories.

Many people do not want their political belief system to be influenced by truth. Yet anyone can find out what is true or false by fact-checking. For example, in the past 65 years, has any presidents balanced the federal budget? Only two: Lyndon Johnson and Bill Clinton, both Democrats.

Has either of our two parties ever reduced the size of our federal government when they held power. No.

Are the majority of federal politicians more beholden to the people who elected them or to their financial supporters? What is your guess? Most politicians seem to split their loyalty and allegiance into three unequal segments: their financial backers first, their party second and the voters who elected them last. It really is a watered-down facsimile of what a genuine democracy should be.

Elected officials are failing in the financial department. The federal government has racked up a debt of $35 trillion.

Both political parties still seem convinced America can achieve everlasting prosperity on borrowed money.

God save America, please.
