Letter to the Editor:

Love your child unconditionally

I recently watched a video of a lady who had just lost her 16-year-old boy. She was devastated because he took it upon himself to leave this world. Looking through her videos, it seemed to me that the boy was gay.

In two of those videos, shortly before leaving this planet, his mom was showing him pictures of famous girls and having him rate them between 1 and 10. It was obvious that he was uncomfortable but forged ahead as most closeted kids would.

Now he’s gone. LGBTQ kids who don’t feel accepted and have to keep their wings folded to protect themselves are unlikely to leave a coming-out letter when they give up and fly away.

That was the saddest thing I have ever seen. Don’t assume your child is straight. Be open to the idea that your child could be different and special.
