LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Biden deserves benefit of doubt

Now that President Joe Biden has made it clear that he won’t step down as his party’s nominee, let’s look at why we should not worry about a possible cognitive decline.

First, he has some impressive accomplishments as president. He deserves some benefit of the doubt when he says he can do the job. More importantly, if he does decline to a point where he can no longer perform effectively as president, the 25th Amendment provides a process for removing a disabled president from office.

In that event, Vice President Kamala Harris would step in. She is smart enough and educated enough to take over effectively.

Remember, we are not electing Biden alone. We are electing a team, a president with impressive accomplishments backed by a VP and Cabinet composed of well-qualified individuals who know what they are doing. Unlike what we are likely to see in a Trump Cabinet, they are not sycophants whose only qualification is fealty to their party leader.

Let’s instead place our focus where it should be, on the psychologically disturbed, educationally challenged Donald Trump. Let’s expose him for the con man and consistent liar he is?
