For many years, I have supported U.S. Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev. She is a strong voice for veterans, the elderly, animals and people in general in our state.
I applaud her for introducing the Humane Transport of Farmed Animals Act. This legislation was out of concern for both animal welfare and human health and safety.
These animals, headed for slaughter, should not be confined in a hot truck without food or water for more than a day — especially newborn, sick or injured animals. If passed, the act would put an end to grueling, long-distance transit for animals left to stand on their own, crammed side by side while sick, injured or in the final stages of pregnancy.
It isn’t asking a lot for the animals who feed so many.
I thank Titus for showing compassion not only for people but also for voiceless animals.
