Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, speaks during a fundraiser at Discovery World Science and Technology Museum, Wednesday, July 17, 2024, in Milwaukee.

When I woke up to the news that Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, will be the vice presidential candidate on the Republican ticket, the hair on the back of my neck rose up.

A person high in the Heritage Foundation stated that Vance was that organization’s first choice for vice president. This is the same group that got three Supreme Court members nominated during Donald Trump’s first presidential term.

Since establishing that conservative supermajority enabled by the Heritage Foundation, the court that has made rulings not even close to what the Constitution would even imply. Among others, it was responsible for overturning the right to abortion and granting presidential immunity.

The selection of Vance provides a direct pipeline from the Heritage Foundation, which authored Project 2025, to Trump. Trump already wants to weaponize the Justice Department, disband the Education Department and add more judges handpicked by the foundation.

If voters allow Republicans to control the White House and Congress, extremists will do all they can to satisfy Trump’s lust for all-compassing power, and there will not be a court system or governing body to stop them.

Look up Vance and read some of his comments.
