Letter to the Editor:

Vance’s rhetoric is concerning

JD Vance Speaks at Liberty High School

Steve Marcus

Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, arrives to speak during a campaign rally at Liberty High School in Henderson Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

So, former President Donald Trump has selected Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, as his running mate. Is he a softer, more reasonable version of Trump, or a harsh, judgmental would-be-tyrant? You be the judge.

Vance authored “Hillbilly Elegy,” a book that blamed the poor and the working class for their own poverty and bad attitude, and he stands by that assessment today.

And in 2021 he condemned Vice President Kamala Harris and anyone else who doesn’t share his worldview as “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”

So, if you’re childless or like cats — or disagree with Vance — that means you want to make America miserable? That’s a fairly harsh judgment on childless women, not to mention cats. And Trump wants to place Vance one step away from the presidency. That will be your call this November.
