In 1969 Supreme Court Justice Abe Fortas resigned for accepting a $20,000 consulting fee (which he returned) from a man who was convicted of security fraud. He did so because the Supreme Court is the final word on the rule of law and must be viewed by the American people as being absolutely fair and impartial beyond all doubt.
Today’s Supreme Court has evolved into an institution many Americans barely recognize. Unhinged from judicial standards, this court has dismantled decades of hard-fought gains and eroded civil rights, weakened the landmark Voting Rights Act, limited the EPA’s ability to fight climate change and ruled that bump stocks are acceptable!
Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito have also acted with questionable ethics, receiving lavish gifts and vacations from billionaires that they failed to disclose. In addition, they both have spouses who have publicly displayed support for trying to overthrow the 2020 election.
This Supreme Court should get out of politics and stick to interpreting the rule of law.
