Is the USA a democracy if:
• A Supreme Court justice receives “gifts” including 38 vacations, 26 private jet flights, most of a $267,000 RV and the court has never had strong ethics provisions including expulsion of members?
• Extreme gerrymandering exists in many states?
• Multiple states have pursued efforts to reduce voting for millions of citizens?
• Election Day is neither a holiday nor a Saturday?
• In elections (2000, 2016 and possibly in 2024) the person with the most votes did not become president?
• A citizen can make hundreds of threats and incendiary statements to judges, lawyers, witnesses and court staff — and have no prompt jail time for contempt of court?
• After over 1,000 days, there is no verdict for a politician who is recorded requesting that another politician to “find 11,780 votes?”
• After over 1,000 days, there is no verdict for a citizen who orchestrated the Jan. 6, 2021 riot?
• After over 1,000 days, there is no verdict for a citizen who took dozens of boxes of classified documents and refused to return them?
• After 248 years as a nation professing equality, courts actually deliberate about whether a citizen has absolute immunity?
• All the above are occurring simultaneously?
These topics merit debate in every high school and college.
