Letter to the Editor:

Trump disdains military service

Whether someone served this country as a grunt, a cook, a truck driver or a pilot — whatever their rank or military occupational specialty, for whatever length of time — it is time to “break contact” with Donald Trump.

There is not one speck in this man’s bones, or bone spurs, that understands, respects, cares for or admires the service we performed. He lacks the character, empathy and integrity to lead.

Trump’s history of degrading our sacrifice is unparalleled. Among his reported comments about members of the military was, “What’s in it for them?,” in addition to calling war dead “suckers” and “losers.”

Whether it was boot camp or officer candidate school, every member of the military and their loved ones were proud the day they became a Marine, soldier, sailor or airman. They chose to serve the greatest country in the greatest military. They still have the pictures with their buddies — overseas, in war zones, at birthday balls, weddings in their dress uniform, etc.

We walked the line, we stood when others ran, we cried, we laughed, some survived, some still suffer and some of our brothers and sisters never made it home. God bless them.

And then here is Trump, desecrating the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery’s Section 60, grinning and flashing a thumb’s up for a campaign photo op.

Enough is enough. As a 20-year Marine veteran, I will never capitulate my vote to this clownish fraud.
