LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Make climate a voting priority

I am a climate voter, deeply concerned that the world is experiencing accelerating changes that make it more inhospitable for life.

In my experience, this started in the early 2000s. In the Midwest where I lived at the time, winter storms got much worse. I remember a flight being diverted because of weather conditions, and hundreds of others being canceled.

Another winter, I recall coming home and being unable to drive up the hill to my house because the street was covered in. In the 15 years I have lived in Nevada, the desert climate become hotter, windier and cloudier, with storms causing much worse damage.

Many of us in Southern Nevada were affected by flooding that caused Interstate 15 to be washed away. More recently, our area experienced dangerous air quality conditions because of fires in California. We’re in a drought that is predicted to only get worse.

Climate scientists tell us we are past normal CO2 levels. I urge my neighbors to consider climate when they vote in the upcoming election. Vote for candidates who understand this problem is happening, and who will look to scientific experts for public policy positions which will move us toward clean energy sources.
