Winston Churchill is widely credited with saying, "Americans can always be trusted to do the right thing, once all other possibilities have been exhausted."
Our experience with President Donald Trump and his enablers in Congress is testing that maxim. We've had two years of punishing tariffs, rising costs and drastically reduced government services. Not to mention Trump's narcissistic self-promotion, his disregard for the Constitution and the courts, and an interminable war with Iran.
And now he's going to cut Medicare benefits.
I suspect that were Churchill alive today, he would conclude that we have now "exhausted all other possibilities" with Trump and his enablers in Congress. But can we be trusted to "do the right thing" in November?
