President won't let go of potential slush fund so easily

One of the biggest bonehead decisions made by President Donald Trump was his attempt to settle his personal claim against the IRS by establishing a $1.8 billion slush fund to compensate Jan. 6 insurrectionists for how they were treated after they attacked the U.S. Capitol, and an addendum shielding Trump and specific members of his family from tax audits. With the magnitude of complaints voiced by opponents, one must wonder whether the narcissistic Trump now functions with a full sense of entitlement.

Even now, Trump continues to support the insurrectionists and the slush fund. At a Cabinet meeting July 31, Trump stated, "Well, it is dead, but you know, I wish it weren't, to be honest with you. ... I'd like (the insurrectionists) compensated for their pain." 

Republicans are in control of Congress, and while the slush fund is an abomination proposing reward for criminal conduct, Trump will never acknowledge in writing that the fund is dead or that tax immunity in the addendum to the agreement applies only to certain Trump family members.

If the slush fund is truly dead, why did the Trump administration file an appeal at the end of July finding that the slush fund was invalid?

Trump is willing to condone criminal conduct as long as it is exercised to benefit him.
