President has no interest in uniting the country

President Donald Trump's latest pursuit of extreme partisanship is his refusal to sign a housing bill, the only bipartisan one passed by this Congress, unless the Save America Act — which only intends to preserve a Republican House majority — also reaches his desk.

While the housing bill would benefit all Americans by requiring more home construction and stopping private equity's housing grab, the Save America Act would make voting more difficult.

This extreme partisanship is not new and dates back to former President Barack Obama's first presidency, when then-Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell stated that his caucus's priority was not to serve the interest of all Americans but to make sure Obama was a one-term president.

Former President John F. Kennedy said, "our duty as a party is not to our party alone, but to the nation, and indeed all mankind. Our duty is not merely the preservation of political power but the preservation of peace and freedom."

Peace, freedom, rule of law and democracy are antithetical to extreme partisanship, where a president fancies himself a king and a Congress, the majority of which are members of the president's party, treats him like a king. 

This nation has endured for 250 years. Presidents and members of Congress come and go. Let's show congressional Republicans the door in November so we can stop the detrimental effects of extreme partisanship.
