LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Voting by mail is patriotic

We need to be prepared to go to bed Nov. 3 without knowing who will win the presidential election. By election night, millions of voters will have already voted, and the ballots will have been in the process of being counted for weeks. Those heading to the polls will be socially distanced, wearing masks, and worried about their future and their health.

Still, we need to start thinking about when and how we will vote. Oct. 17 will be the first day available to vote in person, and if you’re at low risk, this is the period when you should try to vote. In Clark County, there will be 35 polling places for early voting and 100 for Election Day voting.

President Donald Trump has overstepped countless times, and we cannot allow anyone to declare themselves the winner or stop the counting of ballots. The best way we can do this is to get our votes counted early. If you’re worried about your health, then our Assembly members did you a favor by passing AB4, which mandates that a mail-in ballot be sent to every registered voter 20 days before the election.

We have managed to carry out successful elections during wars, and a midterm election during the 1918 pandemic. Your right to vote is sacred and constitutional, and exercising it is the least you can do to honor those who have fought, bled and died to protect it.
