Regarding Jack Corricks’ letter, “Odd places to see handicapped plates,” about handicap placards on what he considers inappropriate vehicles such as Corvettes and big trucks:
I am handicapped with nerve damage in my left leg and arthritis in my hips and knees, and I drive a Corvette. The Department of Motor Vehicles must have documentation of your handicap from a doctor in order to issue handicap status. I got the card for my husband after he was diagnosed with cancer. I couldn’t say no when I saw the stars in his eyes when he saw that Corvette. I lost him to the disease in September 2011. I’m glad he was able to have that car for a season. Please don’t be so quick to judge.
I’m trying to sell the car because it is high-maintenance and I’m on a fixed income.
