Several people have written letters saying why we should have a lottery in Nevada. We don’t need a lottery.

Why do we need more money for education? We are No. 1 as far as being the worst education system in the country. Why lose that lofty ranking? Isn’t it better that the hard-working teachers of this state pay for school supplies out of their own pockets instead of having lottery proceeds available for that purpose? Definitely.

Isn’t it better to raise every homeowner’s property taxes whether or not they have children attending school? Of course.

Isn’t it fun to stand in line for hours in Nipton, on the California border, waiting to buy Powerball tickets? You bet.

We don’t want to spend a penny on anything in this city except to pad the deep pockets of the casino moguls who say a lottery will bankrupt the casinos.

We definitely should not have a lottery that would be beneficial to the state. Instead, we should all work hard to keep Nevada where it is at as far as education and basic economy goes. Right at the bottom of the barrel.
